BREAKING: The Coalition joint party room has endorsed a plan for a November 25 plebiscite on marriage.
If the plebiscite bill is blocked a second time in parliament, a postal vote will be held with a return of ballot paper date of early November.
“Now, we’ve made a very clear commitment here and we are sticking with it,” Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said today.
“If there’s a ‘yes’ vote recorded in the postal vote then we will facilitate the introduction of a private member’s bill to legalise same-sex marriage. And if there is a no vote, we will not,” said the PM.
The Government says a postal vote would be conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
