Read your feedback

Dear Friends,

We thank you for supporting the Speak Up For Marriage Campaign. As you know in the House of Representatives the proposed Marriage Bill was overwhelmingly defeated by a vote of 98 to 42. The debate is still continuing in the Senate and a vote is expected soon. Many of you have provided positive feedback which we outline below for all to read. Some people gave us negative feedback with comments and questions such as:

* why the Church is involved in such an issue;

* the Church should only speak to its congregation and not publicly; and

* the Church should not lobby and criticize gay marriage.

However, as His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos expressed in His Encyclical:

‘our Orthodox view is contrary [to the proposed Bill], not because we have hostile feelings towards our fellow citizens who think or decide differently, but because the proposed alteration to the traditional form of marriage (between a man and a woman) is diametrically against the sacredness of marriage and of the family….’

We welcome all feedback and suggestions.

Without the witness of this ministry our understanding of the Bills presented before the House of Representatives and the Senate advocating for same gender marriage would be substantially compromised. Thank you for shedding light on this very important issue and facilitating a decision that the protects the dignity and worth of our families. Glory be to God!

A great victory indeed ! However, we must applaud our archbishop’s initiative & great efforts in organising the Church campaign against this Bill. God bless him !

Thank God! And a thank you for mobilising everyone via your website. It was great to see the Australian Greek Orthodox Church using technology to stand up for Christian values. We should do it more often. Thank you for your outstanding work.

As one of “the little people” that makes up the majority of society we are not much taken notice of in general. Our parliamentary vote and voice  is misrepresented and misappropriated and given to preferences, we are more than often misquoted and under-quoted in opinion polls and editorial reviews, our opinion is often overshadowed by the rich and fabulous, our views that represent the moral and the religious imperative is often treated as naïve and subjective in essence. We throw up our arms into the air and say: ‘what can we do?’

Thank you for sending me this news update It is very good news indeed and yes, I have lodged my sincere thanks and protests to those people highlighted.

***********************

Thank God that it was defeated. There still exists ‘a conscience’ amongst our Politicians here in Australia.

***********************

Thank you for the update.  I have sent the suggested emails to Ms Vamvamkinou and Mr Georganas. Could you please arrange for a similar email response to the rest of the politicians. We need to continue lobbying both sides as this is not likely to be the end of the matter.  The strident gay rights lobby group has vowed to keep pushing for the legalisation of same sex marriage.  Politicians such as Adam Bandt and Penny Wong have already publicly stated that the issue will be back on the table.  The gay lobby and their supporters, both heterosexual and homosexual, are of the firm view that the legalisation of same sex marriage is simply a matter of time.  We cannot remain complacent just because of this bill’s defeat.

Thank you for the successful representation in this very important matter, in particular I thank His Eminence for His initiative and leadership role that He has demonstrated yet once again together with His team for so many years and over many concerning issues. I am humbled, proud and privileged to be a member of His flock and the Canonical Greek Orthodox Church that He has devoted His life to lead. Congratulations to all that have participated in delivering the strong message

Doxa ton Theo!

Thank you very much for your very good and sophisticated work.  All members of my large family have responded, I listened to the debate in Parliament on the radio, those arguing to allow same sex marriage appalled me- their arguments were purely emotive, and lacked substance.  Kali dinami!

I just like to express my support for maintaining Christian values and Christian marriage. A marriage is between a man and a woman, this is the only natural way to create new life and maintain real family values in this country. As a mother of a one child and expecting one more, I worry about the world that my children will grow up in. I cannot explain the reason for same sex marriages – it’s unnatural and confusing and it can only lead to demolishing of family values in Australia.

Thank-you for organising this petition!

***********************

Thank you for an excellent link on your website to voice our concern about the matter, may the Lord reward you.

***********************

Thank you for the update, may Christ guide us through this potential mess we are in.

***********************

I’m curious that if same sex marriage is legalised in Australia, could it raise it’s ugly head in the future and insist that the law be changed again so that 3 men or 3 women be allowed to marry, because they all, “love one another”. Polygamy will be the next obstacle  God bless you in your efforts.

***********************

Thank you for the opportunity to voice my option on this subject. I too wish I protect the traditional family unit.

***********************

Many thanks for sending us the link to this excellent website.  We will recommend it to others, and pray that many will take advantage of its simple steps to contact their federal MPs.

***********************

I am very happy about the stance of the Church!!!! Good work to whoever is spending their time and effort for this cause.
***********************

Too many young people have now been led to believe that same sex couples should have the same right to marry as heterosexual couples and that same sex marriage is ‘normal’.
